Creative process

One Mile Away is an experiment in making a play in a new way.

Normally,  a play is written by a single writer, usually in isolation at their desk.  With One Mile Away, we wanted to see if collaborative playwriting is possible. The process of making One Mile Away has been designed so that many local co-authors feed into the creative process. We are hoping that this website will act as a social document, pulling together many narratives, both real and fictional, past and present - but all about the same area.

Kat and Nathan are running writing workshops with local people, to share stories and to kick off the writing process.  But anyone can contribute to One Mile Away - if you’ve got a connection to this area, please share it with us.

Kat is writing scenes in the form of script, inspired by her research and th encounters of people she meets. She and Nathan are also blogging about the process of making the play, from start to finish.

Once enough scenes have been written, Kat and Nathan will shape the material into a play, which will be performed by a professional cast this summer, in various locations across the mile.
